Palestine participated in the meetings of the NATO as an observer within 12 other countries. PLC participated in the meetings of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly which was held in Bucharest- Romania, in the period between 6-9 Oct,2017.
29 States members of NATO as well as many Member States of the Parliamentary Union participated in the NATO sessions, they discussed security, civil and economic dimensions as well as political issues.
The delegation included the members of the Palestinian Legislative Council Mohammad Hijazi, Abdul Rahim Barham and Kamal Dabis adviser of the Secretary-general for the Legislative Council.
Statement by the Mp. Mohammad Hijazi was delivered during the meeting of the Committee on the civil dimensions of security, he thanked the countries that hosted refugees in Germany and Europe, as well as Jordan, Lebanon . He pointed to the importance of the continued support and assistance to the refugees after their return to their homes in both Syria and Iraq.
On the sidelines of the meetings of the General Assembly, the Palestinian delegation met the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Paulo who visited Palestine in July last year. Through this meeting the delegation discussed topics related to developments of the Palestinian situation and efforts of reconciliation, in addition to economic and social conditions in Gaza Strip and the homeland. Paulo expressed readiness to support the Palestinian Legislative Council to carry out its functions with hopes to hold new legislative elections.
